GA Representatives vote on SCHIP

Georgia Votes on SCHIP

Here's a short article from the Atlanta Journal Online about SCHIP.

Basically it says that GA congressional votes were split along party lines--republicans-no, democrats-yes--with the exception of one Macon Democrat.

The article is a quick easy read. One of the interesting things I learned, was that the proposed SCHIP renewal/expansion would be funded by an increase in the federal tobacco tax! The article reports that GA Rep. Hank Johnson insinuates this is the reason Bush is promising to veto the bill

Perhaps I sound naive, but I think that it's sad that this is becoming a party-line issue. I just really think that all kids should be guaranteed equitable healthcare.

I agree with you. I too think all children should be guaranteed equitable healthcare. But many people have a different attitude.

Sometimes its this idea that since they've never had a problem finding healthcare then why should we change the system just because others have a problem.

Then there is this other attitude that people who can't afford healthcare somehow don't deserve it or even if they do deserve it why should they be responsible for paying for it.

I really see healthcare becoming a problem that effects everyone.

I always use the example of the Emergency room. Even if you have good health insurance when you go to the ER these days you have to stand in line behind all of the indigent people clamoring for help. I don't know of any ER in the U.S. where you can avoid this these days.
